SIBER-RISK is composed by four main packages to study the seismic hazard, the networks exposure and their vulnerability, and an implementation of a case study of two cities considering the interdependent networks of transport, healthcare and electric power.
Projects
WP1: Seismic hazard and risk assessment of spatially Distributed Network Systems
Earthquake hazard impacts society by producing casualties and fatalities, damage in the physical infrastructure, and a reduction in the functionality of essential services and distributed systems, which are the main scope of this research, such as healthcare-, electric power-, and transportation-network systems. However, predicting in deterministic terms the time, magnitude and location of future earthquakes…

WP2: Vulnerability, risk and resilience evaluation of Distributed Network Systems
WP2 aims to build physical models of three distributed systems as if they were independent of each other, and compute their earthquake vulnerability, risk, and resilience as they are deployed in a specific geographical setting. The geographical area under study is the Metropolitan Santiago and Valparaíso-Viña, which complexity is characterized by the existence of several…

WP3: Graphical model synthesis of Distributed Interdependent Physical Networks
The main objective of WP3 is better understood by splitting it into three components that aim to: Use different methodologies and tools of network theory to facilitate the analysis of vulnerability, risk, and resilience of physical networks subjected to severe earthquakes. Synthesize the complexity of physical networks into graphical models (GMs)—i.e. a combinations of graph,…

WP4: The problem of two cities – Distributed Network Systems risk and resilience at urban scale
A realistic and comprehensive risk and resilience assessment of THE networks must integrate estimates of damage to the surrounding physical environment and downtime of other critical networks that affect the overall performance of THE networks. The disrupted built environment is usually modeled as a collection of individual structures for which the probability of reaching different…
SIBER-RISK Strong Motion Database
During the development of the project, the idea to create an extensive and well defined strong motion database of Chilean earthquakes arised. Used in different tasks, this database has proven to be incredibly useful for researchers and students in their projects. In order to reach more people, we finally have published it online, entirely free.…
