Juan Carlos de la Llera
Juan Carlos de la Lleraemail

Professor of the Department of Structural and Geotechnical Engineering, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and Principal Investigator at National Research Center for Integrated Natural Disaster Management (CIGIDEN). He obtained his master and doctoral studies in the University of California Berkeley in earthquake engineering. Currently he distributes his time as dean of the School of Engineering of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, Principal Researcher of CIGIDEN and his company SIRVE, founded in 2003, which designs and implements seismic protection products based on energy dissipation and seismic isolation. In 2017 he received the Avonni award for Innovative Trajectory Anacleto Angelini.

She completed her studies as mechanical engineer and astronomer in the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, same institution where she obtained her doctoral degree in astrophysics in 2012.

Associate Professor at the Faculty of Engineering of Universidad del Desarollo and Researcher at National Research Center for Integrated Natural Disaster Management (CIGIDEN). He obtained his master degree from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile and his doctoral degree in the University of California Berkeley. Gabriel specialized in seismic hazard, vulnerability and risk analysis, static and dynamic behavior of soils and structures. Current research topics include probabilistic slope displacement analysis, seismic response of tunnels in dense urban areas, rigid body spatial dynamics, and development of empirical fragility functions for crop yield deficits.

Sergio Reyes

Researcher at the National Research Center for Integrated Natural Disaster Management (CIGIDEN). Sergio obtained his Civil Engineer and M.Sc. degrees at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. His research interest is focused on the seismic protection of non-structural components that are critical for the operation of industries and lifelines. In his M.Sc. research, he developed a seismic isolation device for low-mass structures and components, and is currently collaborating in the implementation of this and other similar technologies in the market.

Researcher at the National Research Center for Integrated Natural Disaster Management (CIGIDEN). Juan Pablo obtained his Civil Engineer and M.Sc. degrees at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. His research interest is focused seismic engineering and network analysis. In his M.Sc. research, he proposed a methodology for efficient inelastic dynamic analysis of structures, that can be used for evaluating their performance or to design seismic protection systems.

Postdoctoral researcher at the National Research Center for Integrated Natural Disaster Management (CIGIDEN). Elisa completed her master degree in Environmental Engineering at Politecnico di Milano, Italy, in 2011, and carried out her doctoral and post-doctoral studies in Industrial Engineering, within the Chair on Systems Science and the Energy Challenge, Fondation EDF (Électricité de France) at CentraleSupélec, France. Her research focuses on risk, vulnerability and resilience analysis of technological complex systems (critical infrastructures and industrial installations) exposed to the occurrence of natural disruptive events and random component failures. In particular, she is interested in complex system representation, modeling and simulation in presence of aleatory and epistemic uncertainties.

Mauricio Monsalve

Postdoctoral researcher at the National Research Center for Integrated Natural Disaster Management (CIGIDEN). Mauricio obtained his master degree in computer science in the Universidad de Chile, and then his doctoral degree in the University of Iowa. His research topics are in the areas of data science and computational science, spanning the topic of complex networks as well. He is interested in the application and development of mathematical, statistical, and computational methods to foster the development of scientific knowledge, usually outside the realm of computer science. Also he has shown interest in machine learning, graph theory, pattern discovery, mathematical statistics, time series, mathematical modeling, and optimization, among other methodological topics. His research has been applied to the topics of natural disasters, public health, and hospital epidemiology mainly, and also to economic networks and e-government.

Postdoctoral researcher at the National Research Center for Integrated Natural Disaster Management (CIGIDEN). Civil Engineer (2003) of the National University of Colombia, Manizales and Doctor in Structural Analysis (2013) by the Technical University of Catalonia, UPC, Barcelona, Spain. She has more than 15 years of experience as a risk researcher. She has been working with different institutions and companies in topics related to risk assessment and risk management such as the Environmental Studies Institute (IDEA in Spanish) from the National University of Colombia, Ingeniar Ltda, Centre for Numerical Methods in Engineering, CIMNE, and United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction, UNISDR, Disaster Risk Management Office of Colombia (UNGRD in Spanish). Many of the projects where she has been involved have been founded by the InterAmerican Development Bank (IDB), World Bank, European Commission and UNISDR. She was coordinator lead author of the Disaster Risk Atlas of Colombia (2018). Participated on the development of GAR15 and GAR Atlas Special Report and in the capacity of building on probabilistic risk assessment in countries the Indian Ocean Region, West Africa Region and South Asia and the Caribbean in the framework of the DEVCO project.
